ABOUT THE ARTIST: Photographer and professional safari guide Lee Whittam was born in Zimbabwe and grew up in remote areas of the lowveld of that country alongside the Gonarézhou National Park. His childhood therefore was spent in the bush and from an early age a keen interest in all things natural was very evident. Family holidays in the wild areas of Zimbabwe, such as Kariba and the lower Zambezi Valley, as well as South Africa and Mozambique, consolidated that interest and immediately after finishing high school in South Africa, Lee began his professional career as a trainee guide in the greater Kruger National Park.  He now guides private safaris in Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa and has a particular passion for walking safaris. He generously imparts the benefits of his wealth of experience and knowledge in a characteristically understated way and when not guiding safaris in Botswana finds time to continue to indulge his special interests of photography, fly-fishing and birdwatching in the Cape where he is currently based. His recent photographic work has explored ‘abstracted wildlife’ with stunning results.
